Episode 88: Secret meeting with Atenza
Atenza looks around my room, and she looks a little surprised.
"Are you surprised that the room of this supposed prince is so shabby?"
In fact, the room I'm using is about 6 tatami mats in size, with just a desk, a pair of chairs, a bed, and a closet. Applying common sense in this world, it was a room used by high-ranking servants.
Atenza lowered her eyebrows apologetically at my joking question.
She said, ``I'm sorry for giving you the wrong look.''
"No, it's fine. I was a soldier for a long time, so I felt more comfortable in a small room than in a large room, so I asked for a flexible space."
As I said this, I realized that the reason Atenza was confused in front of the door was because of this shabby room.
I'm sure someone told me where my room was, and when I went there, I found out that it was in a room that was used by servants. You can't help it if you think you've been fooled by someone telling you the location.
Realizing the situation, I smile bitterly and move my chair towards Atenza. I sat on the bed myself.
"So, what's the story?"
When I turned the conversation on, Atenza began to speak, seeming to have difficulty speaking.
"It's been many days since we moved here as hostages. During that time, Prince Milimos hasn't come to see us."
Now that you mention it, it certainly seems like that.
``Although you are hostages, I have no intention of restricting your actions, so I thought it would be easier for you to live in peace if I didn't show my face.Well, there was a lot of paperwork, and the first consul from the empire Part of the reason was that I was busy because I had come over as well.''
When I revealed the situation, Atenza seemed relieved.
"I'm pretty sure Prince Milimos abandoned me."
"I can't believe that. If I was going to abandon you, I wouldn't make various arrangements so that you wouldn't be inconvenienced."
Although she is a hostage, she is originally a princess of the royal family and the wife of the crown prince. I have arranged everything from servants to bodyguards so that there is no disrespect. She is also careful about food, and even sends out food that can be used to make dishes from the Ambitose region.
I wonder how they came to the conclusion that they have been abandoned even though they have gone this far.
However, Atenza also had a point.
"If the ruler doesn't come and see his face, he's saying the hostage isn't worth it. At least, that's how the servants feel."
"...Did you get harassed by the servants?"
If so, penalties must be applied.
But it seems like that was my quick conclusion.
"No. However, it seems that his attitude is becoming a little rough. If things continue like this, I predict that he will start to look down on us."
“Before that happens, are you here to hammer home my actions and the attitude of the servants?”
"It's outrageous that you're stabbing me with a nail."
“I didn’t say it right—I came here to give you some advice.”
I think about Atenza's proposal as I rephrase it, thinking that it means the same thing.
“The solution is for me to go see Atenza and Giverde once every few days.”
"Preferably once a day, but once every five days is also fine. However, I would like you to have a conversation with me, even if it's only for a short time, rather than showing your face and then leaving right away."
“That way, the servants will know that I am not treating Atenza and Giverde roughly.”
"It will be more perfect if you let us know by letter before you visit."
I feel like this is a troublesome etiquette, but women take a lot of time to get ready, so you have to be considerate of how much time you have in advance.
"Okay. Is that all there is to the story?"
"Yes--oh, no. Just one more thing."
Atenza pretended that she had just thought of it, and then she began to talk about the other matter.
"Please refrain from bringing women into your room after sunset. This could lead to misunderstandings."
"It's outrageous to bring her in. Atenza probably said she wanted to join."
"No, I didn't say I wanted to go in. I just looked in the room and asked if there was anyone else. After that, Prince Milimos pulled me into the room. There you are.”
When I tilted my head to see if that was the case, Atenza let out a sigh.
"Prince Milimos really hasn't received any princely education. Doesn't this make me look like an evil woman who deceives an innocent child?"
"I don't really understand why you're angry."
"I'm not angry at Prince Milimos. I'm lamenting the failure of the Nonette royal family."
While I was staring blankly, not really understanding what it meant, Atenza's lecture began.
“Listen, Prince Milimos, please make arrangements for a common room when someone visits your room, especially if the person asking is a woman. If so, please have someone present."
“Why again?”
“This is to show the people around me that there is nothing wrong with Prince Milimos. On the other hand, if we have a secret meeting like this in a room, people who see it will think that there is something wrong with Prince Milimos. is"
"Huh? But wasn't Atenza induced this situation?"
"I did lead you there. I would be in a better position if you misunderstood that Prince Milimos and I are on good terms."
Come to think of it, the reason I came to my room was to solve the problem that the attitude of the servants taking care of Atenza and the others was starting to deteriorate.
If Atenza and I were to have the illusion that we were good friends enough to have a secret conversation in our room, the servants would probably change their attitude out of fear of being unpopular with me as their employer.
As I nodded my head, Atenza told me, ``Prince Milimos has the wrong idea.''
"A good relationship means a relationship between a man and a woman. You understand what this means, right?"
"That's right. It's a physical relationship, right?"
After saying that, I understood it even more deeply.
Some people think that if a man and woman secretly meet in a room, that's the kind of relationship they have.
"I understand. From now on, I will follow Atenza's teachings and not carelessly meet in the room."
As I answered that, a slightly malicious thought occurred to me.
“On the other hand, I have to ask, is it okay for a woman to go alone to a man’s room?”
Although his words were meant to make fun of Atenza's actions, he gave her a relaxed smile in return.
"It can't be helped that it could be perceived as courting the man in the room."
“Isn’t that clumsy?”
"I'm a widow, and I don't have much of a position. I guess it's because I'm in love with someone else that I decided to ask her out -- and I'm sure she'll think it's slutty, but that's all I can say."
“So Atenza is okay with rumors of her having that kind of relationship with me?”
"I don't think it's okay for us to have a real relationship, let alone rumors. Otherwise, I wouldn't be alone in a man's room like this."
I was shocked to see Atenza smiling seductively.
After that, I realized that it was a lesson to be careful of honey traps.
"Ah, ahaha. I'll be careful from now on so I don't do anything careless."
"Please do so. Now that I have finished my business, please take your time."
Atenza gets up from her chair and puts her hand on the door of the room. At that moment, he suddenly turned to me with a bewitching smile.
"--What I said earlier is not a lie. If Prince Milimos asks for my body, I am willing to give it to him at any time."
It was such a harsh suggestion to a man, but I could no longer accept it at face value.
I had sensed that behind Atenza's words was a sentence that said, ``In exchange for offering your body, please do something for me.''
I replied with a casual attitude, and Atenza just nodded and left the room.
