Episode 93: Disturbance at the inn
By gathering information about the country from sources other than dry goods stores, I was able to get a general idea of the situation in Hartaut country.
After getting a lodging and entering a room separate from Princess Palvera and her family, I felt relieved alone. The reason why the Heartaut country wanted weapons from the Rocha region was not because of any aggressive ambitions.
More to the point, it seems like there is a good chance that they will be able to export weapons without worrying about the families being monitored by the Knights.
I need to meet with the King of Heartaut or his representative, hear the true situation, and work out detailed arrangements regarding export.
While thinking about this, I was preparing the leather armor I took off and the sword I took off, when I heard the sound of a carriage stopping outside the inn. Next, there are the voices that are being talked about by onlookers.
Sensing that there was some kind of change in the situation, he put the sword back on his waist first.
Immediately after, I heard the sound of people walking down the hallway of the inn, and they stopped in front of my room. No, some of the footsteps seemed to be heading towards the next room, where Princess Palbella and Familias were.
While I was wondering what was going on, the door to the room was kicked open.
Five soldiers appeared wearing helmets and upper body armor. He was holding a sword in his hand, probably to make it easier to fight inside the building.
“What’s that, all of a sudden?”
I said with a shocked expression on my face while gauging my opponent's skill.
Only one person feels like an experienced soldier, but the remaining four feel like new recruits as well. And perhaps because it was a one-on-five situation between a boy and an adult, there was little tension among the soldiers. If you let your guard down, you might be able to win without using sacred magic.
Although I made that decision, I didn't want to cause any trouble within Hartaut, so I decided to raise my hands slightly, saying I had no intention of fighting.
“So what do you soldiers need from me?”
It was a question I asked purely out of curiosity, but the other person didn't seem to take it that way, and suddenly one of the soldiers got angry and started punching me.
"Don't be so cocky!"
It's a common tactic for soldiers to take control by yelling and punching.
However, it's only natural that it hurts when you get hit, so I have no desire to get hit.
He saw the trajectory of the soldier's fist and ducked his head back to avoid it. At this point, the combat behavior ingrained in him from his training with his family reflexively activated, and his arm automatically struck the soldier's jaw with an uppercut. I was feeding him.
"Ah……"
While I was crying out that I had done it, the soldier who was attacking me rolled his eyes and fell on his back. Apparently, the uppercut landed in a very good spot.
And with their comrades defeated, the soldiers' alertness increased.
"You! Are you going to rebel?"
"There's no resistance, it's probably because you're acting so harshly. This is self-defense."
"Okay, calm down! If you do a bad imitation, you won't just get hurt!"
Soldiers deploy inside the room. A person who looks like a seasoned soldier stands in front of me, and two others take positions on either side of him. The last person left the room while caring for the fainting soldier.
A battle with three adults who were on high alert. Considering his skill, it seems like he could easily win without needing to use a sword as long as he uses divine magic.
The situation might go more smoothly if you let them all pass out and tie them up, then wake them up and ask them what happened.
Just as I was about to start thinking about this, I heard a loud bang and a loud voice that shook the inn from the next room.
"You guys! It would be a shame to slander not only the knight Familis Telestazired of this holy knightly kingdom, but also Princess Pulvera, the second daughter of the King of Knights, as an impostor! It's very rude of me to shave her head and cut her off. I’ll give it to you!”
A seriously angry voice from a family member. What's more, the pressure that seemed to be activating the sacred magic at full power could be felt across the wall.
The soldiers in front of me were shocked by this sudden situation. Then, looking confused, he looked at me asking if it was true or not.
"Indeed, those two people are from the Knight's Kingdom."
“I-I’m traveling with those two, how about you?”
"Mirimos Nonette, the prince of Nonette country. If you're from Hartaut country, wouldn't it be better to go with someone who overthrew Rocha country and became a lord?"
When I revealed my identity, the soldiers' faces turned pale.
Actually, there is no one in this world who pretends to be a knight or princess of a knightly kingdom. This is because past incidents have proven that if you fake something, a real knight from a chivalry kingdom will appear out of nowhere and defeat you.
Even though there are examples of this, calling yourself a knight of a chivalry kingdom is proof that you are a person who doesn't care if you call yourself a knight - in other words, you are the real deal.
Considering this, their current situation means that they have turned their swords on the knights and princesses of a knightly kingdom who advocate justice on the one hand, and the lords of neighboring lands on the other.
I'm the lord of a small, insignificant country, so if I were to pick a fight with a knight from a chivalrous country, it would be a serious matter that could directly lead to the country's destruction. It can't be helped that this makes your face look pale.
While I was analyzing their situation, a person facing me who looked like a seasoned soldier was shouting out orders.
"Everyone, put away your swords! There must have been some kind of misunderstanding in the reporting!"
The first half of the words were to convey the situation to the soldiers, and the second half to us.
The soldiers hurriedly sheathed their swords and even took off their helmets, perhaps to show that they had given up their will to fight.
Perhaps the same situation is occurring in the next room, as the pressure from the family's sacred magic begins to fade.
Thinking that the commotion is coming to an end, I smile at the person facing me who looks like a seasoned soldier.
"Could you please tell me why you broke into my room?"
The person who looked like a seasoned soldier had a look of fear on his face, as if he couldn't understand that I was smiling.
"Yes, yes. We received a report that three traveler-like individuals were going around asking questions and were suspicious."
"If you're a traveler, you'd listen to gossip, right? Isn't that too forceful to barge in?"
“Originally, I would have thrown it away, but the combination of the extremely well-dressed young lady and the well-equipped bodyguard made me suspect that they were both pretending to be travelers from the Empire. I came here because I wanted to hear about it."
“Even if I misidentified him as an interloper from the Empire, isn’t this response excessive?”
"No, no. If you're an insider in the empire, it's standard practice to step in quickly to prevent them from using magic or magic tools."
Magic requires chanting a spell, and magic tools cannot be activated unless they touch the user's body.
However, I feel like you are underestimating the Empire's agents to think that that alone can neutralize them.
There's no point in making such a point, so I'm going to speculate on a different reason why the soldiers took such strong measures.
``Since the momentum for war is increasing, we were on guard against interlopers so that the empire, which is always aiming to invade its territory, would give them an excuse to intervene. That's where we were gathering information. Since it's something like that, I guess it's a situation where you suspect it's an intermediary?"
"Eh? That's right, but..."
They looked at me as if asking me why I knew what was going on behind the scenes.
I smile amiably to disguise his suspicions.
"I came to this city because I wanted to meet with the ruler of this country and establish arrangements regarding the export of weapons. And the two knights from the Knights are in charge of monitoring that."
“Is it about arms export and surveillance?”
“I guess it feels like making money out of war violates the national policy of a knightly nation.”
Although my family hasn't actually told me that, I'm convinced that it is.
"That's why I was planning to stay at this inn until I had a meeting scheduled with the lord."
Although I said it in a casual manner, the soldier understood my intention.
“I cannot apologize for this disrespectful act, but I will inform my superiors about the circumstances of Prince Milimos and the Knights, and I will arrange for a meeting with King Hartout - His Majesty Quercia III in the near future. Masu"
"It would help if you did that."
“Then, we will withdraw!”
The soldier saluted and left the room, gathered up his subordinates in the hallway, and left the inn as if to run away.
After seeing them off, I decided to go check on the situation in the next room.
After knocking on the door that was left open, I stood at the border between the room and the hallway.
“Did you two have any problems?”
In response to my question, Familias looked angry and helpless, and Princess Pulvera looked troubled.
"There can't be a problem! No, there is a problem! Even though they had an audience with Princess Pulvera's beautiful appearance, they misunderstood her as someone from another country! What should they be focusing on? Is he there! I can’t help but see such a cute interloper!”
"I'm already a family member. I understand that you care about me, but for now, look, Milimos-kun is here too, so hold him back."
"No! We have to stuff the understanding of Princess Pulvera's loveliness into the heads of people who can't understand the logic of things!"
“Ah, Milimos-kun, please stop laughing and stop the familis from running wild!”
I'd like to agree with Familias about the problems with the manners of those soldiers and the cuteness of Princess Pulvera.
However, I couldn't ignore Princess Parbella's request, who was in a state of tears, so I decided to do my best to calm the family down.
