Episode 102 Reinforcement preparations
A request for reinforcements came from the Heartaut country.
I was planning to respond right away, but when I learned that my destination had been specified, I decided to take my time preparing.
“I never thought they would try to deploy reinforcements from other countries to the front lines.”
It seems like they're sending an army from the Heartaut country, but I don't think they'll be keeping an eye on us.
They say that countries cannot be friends, even if kings are close friends, but when people are being so blatantly wary of it, even though I don't really care about it, I feel bad.
I'm thinking of stopping sending out reinforcements, but that's impossible because of the eyes of the knights of the knightly kingdom who advocate justice.
"We have no choice. We will send 3,000 soldiers for reinforcements. Instead of relying on supplies from the Heartout country, we will gather supplies so that we can provide our own weapons and food!"
At my command, the soldiers begin to move actively.
They collected the food that had been saved in various places, selected the soldiers who had been dispersed in various places, and forced the blacksmiths to prepare the weapons.
The powerful clans complained that their people would starve after ordering them to gather food, but perhaps because the summer wheat harvest was coming soon, they didn't complain too strongly, which helped.
For the time being, we have made plans to collect enough supplies to last until winter.
In the free time before the supplies are finished accumulating, we have to decide who will be the lead commander.
“That said, General Durva is the only one suitable.”
My claim ended up being denied by the person in question.
"The battle in the southern part of the Heartaut country is expected to be a siege battle. Unfortunately, I have never led a siege battle."
According to General Durva, when the Rocha region was still a country, the people of Rocha fought mainly in open battles, relying on hard armor for protection.
"That's why the tactics I've learned are all about forward suppression. I can only do things like siege and attack according to the textbook."
I'm troubled by the argument that he's not suitable for the mission because he's an outsider.
"General Durva. If you say you're not suitable, I'd like you to at least recommend someone."
"Don't worry. I have someone in mind who is suitable for siege battles and raiding."
"Hey, who is that?"
"That's you, Prince Milimos."
After hearing General Durva's words, I folded my arms and thought about my accomplishments.
In the battle against the country of Mendacium, they engaged in a siege battle on the front lines.
The country of Roccia was disrupted by guerrilla tactics using ambush troops.
During the time of the Ambitose country, they achieved victory through a quick invasion.
I see, just looking at his military results, he seems like a great commander who has experience in siege warfare and is adept at using tricks.
"But I'm the lord of this area. Is it okay for me to go to the front lines?"
"What are you doing now? Prince Milimos has always been on the front lines, hasn't he?"
“That’s true, but isn’t it normal for people to scold you and say, ``I can’t believe a feudal lord is going to the front lines!”
"If you're a normal lord, that's true. But he's Prince Milimos."
I hope you don't say my name like it's an absurd synonym.
But, I understand that it's best for me to leave.
“If the soldiers of Roccia are not used to siege warfare, I would like to bring in soldiers from Nonette country who have experience working in forts.”
The soldiers of the Nonette country are currently in the process of increasing and reorganizing their ranks under Sarcasimo, who has become field marshal--or rather, it would be more accurate to say that Sarcasimo is currently training all the soldiers to become suitable for the position of marshal.
In such a hectic situation, I don't think they have the luxury of allocating troops.
In the first place, I didn't think Salkajimo would give permission, as he seemed to be treating me as his enemy.
“I have no choice but to make ends meet with the cards I have now.”
I decided to show up at the research department to at least see if there were any tools or magic tools that could help me in my siege.
"I'm going to be the commander in chief of the reinforcements, and I'm expecting a siege battle. Do you have anything good to say?"
The entire research department looked confused at my rough request.
First, the steel team.
"This weapon, made from a by-product of trying to reproduce the Empire's magic pattern, is made of layers of iron with different hardness, and is superior to anything that has come before."
“Well, the magic patterns have yet to be recreated, so it can’t be used as a magic weapon.”
Next is the bronze group.
“If you just attach a metal plate with a pattern stamped on it to a wooden shield so that you can put up a magical barrier, you can get a number of them. However, the performance will only be rough.”
“If the patterned part of the sheet metal is scraped off, the effect will be lost.”
The last group was the new materials group.
"I've been busy making glass and teaching how to make it, so my research on magic tools has been put on hold for a while."
"Ah, but. The round crystal required for the magic tool tree bird. I have made it possible to substitute it with glass."
After listening to the report from the third group, I thought about how to use the research results.
"The steel team will make as many hand axes as possible using that multi-layered steel. The bronze team will make bronze plates that are shaped like talismans and can be used as linings for helmets and armor, rather than shields. The new materials team will make them. We're mass-producing wooden birds. We don't have much time left until we leave, but please make as many as you can by then."
"""roger that!"""
Following my instructions, everyone in the research department began working with enthusiasm.
It is unknown how many will be made in the few days until supplies are collected, and it is also unknown whether they will be useful even if they are made.
Still, we have to do what we can.
During the war, you probably don't have time to reminisce about what you should have done at that time.
Thanks for the chapter
