I Was Reincarnated as a Commoner. I Can’t Stand Living Like This, so I’ll Become an Aristocrat! C125
125, Leon's treatment
Today is finally the day of recovery and the day of the crepe party. Ronnie had been nervous ever since this meeting was decided until today.
Today I'm going to do my best to help Ronnie relax as much as possible. Well, Ronnie seems to be nervous the whole time just because he's in the Duke's mansion.
And now I'm in the carriage going to pick up Ronnie. It seems that Stefan and Martine will be coming to the mansion around noon, so they came to pick up Ronnie before then.
When I said I would go pick up Ronnie, Ronnie refused all the time, saying he would be pulling a cart, but since I had a lot of luggage and the duke's house was further away than the square, I promised to force myself to pick him up.
It's a duke's carriage, but it's a simple carriage that often came to my parents' house, so it should be fine.
Then, after leaving the duke's house for a while in a carriage, we arrived near Ronnie's house. The road in front of Ronnie's house is too narrow to go, so the carriage waits a little further away, and I walk to Ronnie's house.
I was actually thinking of going alone, but Roger came with me as a matter of course, so we ended up going together.
At first, I thought it was cramped having a servant follow me everywhere, but lately I've gotten used to it. I don't really realize it myself, but maybe I'm already steeped in the lifestyle of an aristocrat.
While thinking about this, I walked down the back alley and arrived in front of Ronnie's house. Then he knocks on Ronnie's door.
"Roger, I'll do it."
"……I got it"
As expected, I was the one who called out to Ronnie. I felt like Roger was going to make me do it, but when Roger's voice calls out to me, Ronnie's worries will be added to the mix.
“Is Ronnie there?”
"Yes. Wait a moment."
When I called out to Ronnie, that voice came back and the door to the room opened immediately. Her voice is quite bright, so maybe it doesn't sound like she's too nervous or dangerous.
"Leon wait..."
Ah... Ronnie had a smiley and cheerful face, but the moment Roger came into view, his face stiffened and froze.
It's true that Roger is expressionless, so he might be scary when meeting someone for the first time. His clothes were that of a duke's servant, so I thought he was unfriendly and scary at first.
Now I think it's good that Roger is my servant, but I don't know what's good about him when I see him for the first time.
"Ronnie, this is my servant Roger. He has no expression, but he's not scary, so it's okay."
"My name is Roger. Thank you."
"Ah, yes! Um, my name is Ronnie. Nice to meet you."
The two said hello, but silence soon reigned. Roger doesn't talk more than necessary, and Ronnie isn't the type to talk to each other easily, so if it were just the two of them, it would be extremely awkward.
I spoke out loud, trying to cut through this awkward atmosphere.
“Ronnie, there are three of us with luggage, so can we take it without using a cart?”
"Uh, yeah! I think the three of us can barely hold it, but is it okay if I ask you to carry it?"
"Of course. Now, let's carry your luggage."
Then, the three of us divided up our luggage and walked back to the carriage. Roger brought a lot of luggage with us, so Ronnie and I were comfortable.
Ronnie was horrified by this fact and tried to carry his luggage by himself, but Roger seemed to be taking more and more with him, so he gave up.
"Leon, does Leon have any followers? I haven't heard of it!"
As we were walking, Ronnie spoke to me in a quiet but strong tone. She may have never told Ronnie about Roger.
"You've never talked about Roger before, have you?"
“I’ll be surprised, so please let me know in advance!”
“Are you that surprised?”
"I'm sure you'll be surprised! Normally, commoners who are under the guardianship of nobles may work as servants, but they never have servants!"
I guess that's the case. I was also surprised by Dr. Longo before. I guess my treatment is pretty good, and I'm really grateful to the Duke Townsend family.
"But I have Roger with me. I think I'm being treated pretty well."
"It's not quite right! It's an impossible treatment!"
"so much?"
Is this treatment as impossible as it is being said?
Well, considering I'm a normal civilian, maybe that's the case. The reason I was treated this way was probably because I am of all attributes.
“Now that I think about it, I haven’t asked you for a long time, but why did Leon end up being guardianed by the Duke family?”
I'm sure you have doubts about that. But I'm at a loss when you ask me why.
At first it was just a coincidence...and my status and abilities were desirable to the Duke's power.
"Hmm, it's hard to explain, but I guess it's because my abilities and status were useful to the Duke's power."
"But even if that were the case, you wouldn't normally be treated this highly."
Now that you say that...when I think about it again, I wonder why? We were treated like this from the beginning, right? I guess it's because I have something in common with the apostle after all. Martine told me before that she thinks I'm an apostle.
Considering that, I need to be more careful not to be hailed as an apostle. If I receive divine punishment for deceiving an apostle, there is nothing I can do to prevent it.
"Well, I guess it's because everyone in the Duke family is really nice. So Ronnie doesn't have to worry."
Since I can't even tell you about all the attributes, I tried to fool him by saying that, and Ronnie nodded, although he looked unconvinced.
"I don't understand, but...I understand."
After walking for a while, we arrived at the carriage, so we loaded all our luggage and got into the carriage.
Ronnie is sitting looking relaxed, but I wonder if he's surprisingly nervous?
"Ronnie, aren't you that nervous?"
"Hmm, I guess I just gave up once something started happening...Maybe I've gotten used to it. I'm not really nervous now. But if I go to the mansion, it might get really dangerous."
Oh! Ronnie is growing up. I'll probably have more contact with nobles from now on, so if I get used to it, things will be easier from now on.
“I hope you gradually get used to it.”
"Yeah. Leon is too used to it though. Are you really a commoner?"
Ronnie stares at me with resentful eyes.
"I was nervous at first, too, but now we're living together...I don't know if it's okay to say this, but it's like we're another family."
After talking with Lucien and Richard-sama the other day, that feeling started to grow. Nowadays, the duke's mansion is a place to return to, and it has become a place to calm down.
"Ah~. I already knew that, but today I understand more. Leon is special. Since he's Leon, I'll accept everything now."
It seems like I'm not normal. Well, that's true, I can't argue with anything, but I don't want to just nod my head.
"...I don't think that's the case."
I replied in a low voice with at least some resistance. Then Ronnie looks at me and opens her mouth.
"Leon is not normal! He's definitely special! Don't call Leon a commoner anymore!"
"But I'm a commoner..."
"You're such a special commoner!! You're definitely not an ordinary commoner!!"
"Well, maybe so..."
"It's not just a possibility, it's definitely true! Understood!?"
"I-I understand..."
Ronnie seems to be getting stronger. Maybe it's my fault for getting involved in so many things? Maybe it's a good thing, but I'm sorry...
While we were talking like that, we arrived at the mansion. When you get off the carriage, a servant comes and unloads your luggage.
"Can you take all my stuff to the cafeteria?"
"I'm sorry. I'll have the servants carry your luggage, so Leon-sama and Ronnie-sama can wait in your room. We also have Ronnie-sama's guest room available. Would you like to have some tea in Leon-sama's room?" I can also prepare one for you.”
“Ronnie-sama!? My guest room!?”
Ronnie let out a cry of surprise at Roger's words, then realized that it was too loud and suddenly covered his mouth with his hand.
“Ronnie-sama is a guest of Lucien-sama and Leon-sama, so we have a guest room available for him.”
"Ah, thank you. But, um, please go to Leon's room."
"Okay, I'll show you to your room."
Then Ronnie and I started walking, following Roger.
