Episode 148 Desert Warriors
After traveling through the desert for several days, we finally arrived at the place where we had to confront the desert people.
However, since the entire area is a vast expanse of sand, everything looks the same to me, so I have a hard time recognizing that this is the place I'm going for.
“Maybe we got there first?”
When I asked Hvetsk, who had offered me directions in the desert, he shook his head.
"No. It seems like they're ahead."
What Hvetsk showed us was a patch of flat desert land.
It looked like nothing more than a pile of sand, but as I stared at it, the sand began to swell in several places.
I thought it might be a sand worm, a monster that swims in the sandy land, but what emerged from the sand was sand-colored cloth. Then, from inside the cloth appeared a group of bearded men wearing loose-fitting black clothing and a kamu-ho-ho.
"Were you hiding in the sand?"
"I hear that's the best way to rest in the desert without being seen by monsters."
“I think it’s hard to breathe because you’re buried in the sand.”
“It seems there is a secret magic that allows you to breathe naturally even in the sand.”
“Is that true?”
"No. Just because they say that, I'm not sure if it's true or false..."
While I was talking with Hvetsk, the desert people approached me on their own Kamyuhoho.
Now that the distance has shortened, I will be able to see them in more detail.
A red cloth hangs down from his head to his neck where his thick beard is covered, and is secured with a headband-like cloth. I guess it's similar to the turban I used to call it in my previous life.
The clothes are made of carefully woven thick black cloth. The color absorbs sunlight, and its thickness makes it perfect for winter wear in the desert.
If you look closely, the clothes bulge out in the shape of leather armor. I guess it's the desert people's style to wear it on the inside of their clothes, not on the outside like we do.
And on the waistband of his clothes was an elaborately made dagger. In her hand, she holds a spear that looks like a meat cleaver attached to the end of the handle. I remember seeing some of their weapons, so they must have been made in the Rocha region.
Additionally, the saddles and reins of the Camu-Ho-Ho that they rode had fine embroidery, giving them a somewhat luxurious appearance.
From their elaborate appearance, it was assumed that the warriors of the desert people belonged to some kind of privileged class.
While I was observing, the desert warriors were coming right in front of me.
One of them, the one who seemed to be the oldest, spoke out to me.
“Who is that commander?”
A slightly accented tone came from a mouth hidden behind a mustache.
If he had that much of a beard, it would feel like it would go into his mouth every time he moves his mouth, whether he's talking or eating.
Before I could reply, thinking that there was no point in doing so, Hvetsk answered back.
"Our commander is Prince Milimos, who is here!"
The moment Hvetsk said this while pointing at me, the desert warriors burst into laughter.
"Bhahahahaha! Next to the talkative guy Bara, a child with a weak beard will appear. The Water People are strange!"
"Look at that cute face. I thought it was a masturbator!"
“Oh no, there’s a Onago too. Just like that stiff armored kid wearing a cloth!”
After hearing their words, I stroke my chin.
Come to think of it, even though he's over 14 years old, he doesn't have much trouble with his beard, and his arm and shin hair are thin.
Even when I think of Vishka to my older brothers Futtero and Salcasimo, they aren't very hairy either.
It seems like his body hair is thin due to his bloodline.
While I was thinking about this, the desert warriors stopped laughing and started clicking their tongues.
"Tsk. I didn't even get angry after being laughed at so much."
“The Water People are not too lazy.”
"It's as if the battle was won."
From their reactions, I sense a cultural discrepancy as I begin to speak.
"So, if we win this battle, you'll give us all the rights to the commercial road, right?"
The replies from the desert warriors were laced with contempt in their voices.
``A dog with all his hair growing back is looking stylish.''
"I don't like it when you think you can beat Wate and the others."
"I'll finish this quickly and go back to my hometown."
While various words were being uttered, the eldest desert warrior raised his hand, and the others all fell silent.
"That is, if we win. If we win, we will ask you to stop all interference."
I had heard that was the condition, so I nodded in response.
Just when I thought we had both confirmed the conditions, the other party added one more condition.
"In addition, I'll have your onako."
The person who was shown was Pulvera.
As soon as I understood what that meant, the words came out of my mouth smoothly.
"Ah? Who do you want to get?"
The tone of his voice was so gruff that I was a little surprised when he said it.
The eldest desert warrior looks at me, grins, and adds some more words.
“The reason you brought Onago to the battlefield was supposed to be as a tribute in case you lost, right?”
"Palvera is my wife. There's no way I'm going to give her away."
"Huh. If you can't accept the conditions, then let's skip this battle. It's for your own sake, considering you'll lose."
There's no way he would take advantage of such a provocation and use Palvera as a stake.
"If it means stopping the fight, then that's fine. I wasn't really into it from the beginning."
When I turned the Kamyu-ho-ho I was riding, a provocation came over me.
``If you try to turn your tail and run away, you're too weak.''
"If you think so, then think about it. No matter what you say, I have no intention of making Palvera a gambling target!"
When I was in a bad mood and seriously tried to go home, Hvetsk grabbed me and stopped me.
“If we run away here, we will give up on the desert trade route we are about to seize!”
"Do you know! I'm the lord of the Rocha region! The Ambitos region is probably my brother Vishika's domain!"
When I glared at him, wondering if you wanted me to bet Palvera too, Hvetsk turned around and let go of my hand.
“If I put it in my own person, their claims are unacceptable, but...”
"I guess so. How can you be involved with people who make such demands!"
When I let the Kamyuhoho I was riding walk again, this time Neroteora stood in front of me.
"Familyis. You too?"
When I asked him half-heartedly, the family shook his head, ``No, no.''
“Even if you cut the people who have been calling Princess Pulvera like an offering, it will not be enough.”
"Then why are you stopping me?"
"Of course, that's because Princess Pulvera asked for it."
When I turned my attention to Palvera, who was sitting behind the family, I saw a happy smile on her face.
"I'm very happy that Milimos-kun is trying to stop the fight out of concern for my safety."
“Then why?”
"Of course. Because I believe that Milimos-kun will win the battle."
It was a reply that didn't seem to be connected to the topic, but I understood what you were trying to say.
"Since I'm going to win, it doesn't even matter if I put myself on the line."
"Yes. Milimos-kun will win, so if we go back here, we will simply lose the commercial route."
I was troubled by Pulvera, who seemed to believe in victory from the bottom of her heart.
"I don't think it's right to put your own wife on the line, do you?"
“If the decision is based on a sure-fire plan of winning, then it can be said to be the right decision.”
"There's never going to be a fight, right?"
"No. Milimos-kun will definitely win. So it's okay."
If I were to run away in battle after being told this much, I would be betraying Palvera's expectations.
I turned Kamyuhoho around again and turned to face the oldest desert warrior. His facial expression gave the impression that he was smiling behind his deep beard.
“Lord, you have made a good woman your wife.”
"I know even if you don't say it. And because that good woman told me so. I'll fight you guys."
"Hmph. It would be a good idea to use your skills to prove that the woman's choice was correct."
Even if he didn't tell me, I had to put Palvera's life on the line, so I had no intention of losing.
That's why I'm going into this battle with the intention of defeating fifty desert warriors by myself.
