Episode 161: New Sword
My favorite sword broke.
Well, I, who have less physical strength, was the one who received a serious blow from a knight from a chivalrous kingdom. It would be weird if it didn't break.
"But, ah. Since we're at odds with the Empire, there's no way to obtain a new magic sword..."
I walk with my shoulders slumped, holding a broken sword in its sheath.
A family member walking next to me called out to me to encourage me.
"This is a good opportunity. Let's say goodbye to the Empire's sword. I'm sure that sword was the one that was hindering Prince Milimos' improvement in his divine arts skills!"
His tone was as if he were saying it wasn't his fault, but his expression also seemed apologetic.
Even if you don't make that face, I'm aware of my lack of skill, so I don't blame my family.
When I was silent, wondering if I should properly explain this, the family member started talking, acting like she was trying to find a topic.
"So, where is Prince Milimos heading now?"
"I'm heading to the research department to get a new sword and use the broken sword as research material."
"I see. The blacksmiths of Rocha have the best steel technology on the western side of the continent. I'm sure they'll make a good sword."
"I'm hoping for that too. It's said that the Empire was importing Rocha's weapons for a while."
While we were talking, my family and I arrived at the research department.
When I opened the door and went inside, the blacksmiths were making a lot of noise, as usual.
"What do you think? Can you move?"
"I can move, but the movement of my joints is not good."
"You can't do that without armor."
"Let's reexamine the structure of the joints."
In the middle of the crowd of people exchanging various words, there was something strange.
It is shaped like a human out of iron pipe. A person enters the suit and manually moves the pipes that serve as the humanoid limbs, making it look like one of the earliest robot suits.
“…What is that?”
When I asked my question, all the blacksmiths turned towards me.
“Prince Milimos was there!? And Mr. Familis too!?”
"Um! This 'Scarecrow' isn't playing around. He's researching the body of a new type of armor!"
"Idiot, Kakashi is probably his nickname. Moving armor that uses magic is the official development name."
The blacksmiths start arguing.
I knew that they were trying to make magical armor, but I was wondering where and how they decided to take the lead in developing a robot suit. Was it simply the result of wandering in a strange direction?
"If you're doing proper research, that's fine, but the reason I showed up here today is because there's something I want everyone to create."
When I called out to him, the blacksmiths stopped arguing and turned to me with serious faces.
"Yes. What do you want to make?"
"My sword broke, so I'm going to have you make a new one."
When I handed over the broken magic sword, the blacksmith looked at me and my family in turn, and suddenly had a satisfied look on his face.
"Okay. So, are you going to make a steel sword? Or do you mean we should make a magic sword with our own hands?"
"Can you make a magic sword?"
The question was purely out of doubt, but it seemed to hurt the blacksmiths' pride.
"It's already possible to make it. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to develop heavy magic armor that even the Empire hasn't made."
“Prince Milimos himself told me to develop magical weapons and shields.”
I blinked at the unexpected answer.
“I haven’t seen any reports that you can now make magical weapons?”
"Even if you say you can make them, it's just a copy of the empire's weapons. Technically, we're still a long way off from being able to freely rearrange and play around with magical patterns."
The point is, even if it is possible to make a magical weapon, it is not at the stage where it can be applied--I guess it means that a blacksmith cannot make it from scratch unless he can make it himself.
As someone like me who doesn't care about assumptions as long as I can use the tools to the fullest, I would have liked him to report once he was able to create a magic weapon.
“So it’s a new sword though-”
A normal steel sword and a magical sword that activates magic.
When I was thinking about which one to choose, I suddenly had an idea.
"--Try making both. I'll use the one that's more comfortable to use."
When I made a random suggestion, the blacksmiths split into two groups as if to show each other.
"Okay. I'm going to make a steel sword. I'm going to use all the technology I've cultivated up until now."
"This is a magical sword. Hehe, I'll show you how to make it better than imitating a monkey."
The blacksmiths were motivated and divided into two groups, glaring at each other.
Then, each of them immediately started making swords. It seems that it is scheduled to be completed in ten days.
Looking forward to the day it would be completed, I sneaked into the robot suit while the blacksmiths were busy with it and tried working on it.
Then, I felt a heavy sensation, similar to when I moved muscle training equipment.
It seems that the magic armor is still far from being completed.
Since I was accepted to a doujin event, I will reduce my updates to once every three days in order to create a manuscript.
