Episode 164: Summer has arrived
It was the middle of summer, and the peaceful daily life continued.
Crops are growing rapidly under the summer sun, and the time for harvest and sowing new seeds is approaching.
Me and Palvera's birthday came and we turned another year older, I turned 15 and Pulvera turned 16.
Speaking of a 16-year-old woman, she would have been old enough to get married in Japan in her previous life.
I was hoping that this would mean that the couple's nightly life would be lifted, but I was again asked to wait by the family.
"One more year. Just one more year, let's see if Princess Pulvera's physical growth has finished."
Palvera looked troubled by the desperate family's words.
“I don’t think it would be better to have a child with Milimos-kun as soon as possible.”
"That's too sweet, princess! Giving birth is a major undertaking for a woman that can cost her life! No matter how careful we are, it's still not enough!"
There is some logic to the family's statement.
Unlike my previous life, childbirth in this world is basically a home birth.
Even though midwives help with childbirth, they are not doctors, so they would never perform a caesarean section using a scalpel when the mother's body is in danger. In fact, if you were to perform a poor surgery, you would die from an infection in this world's sanitary environment.
That's why, Honneth told me, it's not just family members, but people's parents, who wish to have a child when a woman is in good health.
"The Honneth family had a lot of children, right? Is giving birth really that difficult?"
"Well, that's it. We strain well water through a cloth and boil the water in a pot. We use the hot water to wash pregnant women and babies, and boil the cloth that babies are wrapped in to sterilize them. If she faints, I slap her on the cheek to wake her up, and if she doesn't wake up, I make her smell boiled urine.''
"...Just hearing it is a big deal."
"It's literally risking my life. Oh, my mother is also working as a midwife now, so she calls me when she gives birth to Senpai's baby."
“Does this mean that the person who has given birth to many children will become the next midwife?—or the child with me!?”
"But before that, we have to have a wedding. Having a child before marriage is not a good idea."
As I was stunned by Honneth's words, which he said so bluntly, Palvera came into the conversation.
"That's right. I have to do the wedding with Honest. Milimos-kun, I have to prepare."
"Well, I'm planning on having a wedding with Honneth, but I guess it's a bit of a bad time..."
What I took out from my office desk were multiple letters from Nonette's home country.
"It seems like older brother Salkajimo got married in the empire and brought his wife back. He seems to be having a hard time dealing with that."
“Wasn’t it just to meet the children of the imperial aristocrats?”
I nod at Palvera's words.
``It was supposed to be just a show, but it seems like they met with Brother Salkajimo and hit it off, and then they got married straight away.Duke Avukoro was worried about this unexpected thing. He brought a lot of things with him. As for the dowry, it seems that the Prime Minister is happy about it.''
"I'm glad that Milimos-kun's older brother got married, even though he's the daughter of an imperial aristocrat. But what's the reason why he can't marry Hones?"
``Actually, brother Sarcasimo seems to be a creep on your wife. He seems to be doing a lot of things to keep other men away from her. I especially went out of my way to write her a letter telling her not to come back to her home country.'' Tayo”
“I understand how a newlywed husband feels, but why did he say something like that specifically to Milimos-kun?”
“They heard that I won the war and expanded their territory, so they want me to tell them about that time.In the Empire, listening to stories of my accomplishments in the war is a pleasure for the aristocrats. What is that?”
“In other words, Sarcasimo-san is jealous and doesn’t want Milimos-kun to come near him.”
“The fact that Sarcasimo is so in love with you means that their relationship as a couple must be in good condition.”
And Sarcasimo is a field marshal, the highest authority in the military.
If I ignore that request and head to Nonette's home country, I can easily predict that it will cause unnecessary confusion. Even if Alektem is there to look after you.
"That's why it's difficult to hold my wedding with Honneth in my home country right now."
“Then, wouldn’t it be a good idea to invite the families of Hones and Milimos to the Rocha area?”
``However, since Salkajimo's older brother held the wedding in the empire without permission, the people apparently complained that they couldn't celebrate. For the people, they were deprived of one of the few places they could have a fun festival. Because it's shaped like that.''
In a letter from Duke Avkolo, there was a request that Honest and I get married in his home country.
Upon hearing this explanation, Palvera's tone became a little angry.
"It's important for the royal family to comfort the people, but marriage is essentially a matter of men and women. Milimos-kun should place importance on Honest's feelings."
"I'm very aware of that. That's why I'm going to ask Honneth a question."
"Eh, ah, yes. What is it?"
Honneth's confused response made me realize that she was probably ignoring the topic as something that had nothing to do with her.
"If you want to marry me right away, you'll have to invite your family to the Rocha region. But if you wait a little, you can celebrate with other people in Nonette's own country. Which would you prefer?"
"Uh, um... then, I think it would be better to wait and do it in your home country."
Palvera looked surprised at Honneth's choice.
“Honesu was looking forward to marrying Milimos-kun, wasn’t he?”
“No, but weddings are celebrated throughout the village, so it would be lonely to invite only family members to the Roccia area.”
``I understand that Honneth respects Rocha's culture, but there's no need to hide your feelings.''
"Hmm, I don't know what to say. Senpai wants to marry me, so instead of rushing into marriage, I think it's okay to wait for the day when we can celebrate with everyone in the village."
“Hones is a good kid after all.”
Pulvera shrugged her shoulders and looked at me seriously.
"Mirimos-kun. It would be a bad thing to not make Honest happy because he's so annoying."
"Well, since we're getting married, I'm going to make you happy--I don't think that's something my wife would say to me, or something I'd say to her, right?"
While I was losing confidence in my own common sense, Palvera looked satisfied, as if saying, ``I took my word.''
