Milimos Saga – The Reincarnation Chronicle of the Youngest Prince. C192

Episode 192: Counteroffensive operation in preparation

I returned to the field castle on the front line and decided to gather the soldiers of the Nonette country in preparation for a counterattack.

While I was working on that, I talked to Chief Sennin--Kikos, who was helping me, about my meeting with King Virison in the rear camp.

Then, Kikos gave me a confused look.

"Is it okay, Prince Milimos?"

"What?"

"The prince's words will destroy their face. The path between us and Nonette's home country may be cut off due to the antipathy."

Kikos' idea is correct.

To hurt an ally with words would be like making an enemy among your own family.

But I have a point too.

“Before I entered the rear position, I was also thinking of offering cooperation in a calm manner. But no.”

Soldiers with no ambition and superiors who don't even try to boost their morale, and general-level people who can be seen to be trying to protect themselves.

"I know I'm being cruel, but even if I ask them to help me, they'll only be a hindrance. Or rather, they'll hinder my operations, so I'm just a nuisance."

The counter-offensive operations that will be carried out from now on must first produce results that are sufficient to make up for the inferior position we have been in thus far. If you don't, you won't be able to stop the enemy's momentum.

Despite this, if you have an ally with low morale on hand, the enemy may be able to target you and send the results of your battle to the enemy.

Even in military books - generals who lose their armies overstate their meager military achievements, creating an atmosphere as if the battle was a draw or a victory. Therefore, if you want to break the enemy's spirits, you should win with a complete victory. It is true.

"Well, I understand that. Even though we won the battle, we had to draw back the front line because the soldiers of the Perese nation defending the other side lost."

Kikos seems to remember as well, nodding with a bitter expression on his face.

“That being said, wouldn’t it be bad if we were to lose contact with our home country?”

“If you move your army to block our actions, Perese will not be able to support the front lines and will perish, right?”

Even now that I am commanding the entire army, I am not able to maintain the front line. If you tear the troops to the rear, it will collapse in no time.

Why is that?

About half of Perese's country has already been taken away. Normally, we were in a situation where we had to hold back, even if it meant setting up a counterattack.

Despite this, if we create a new rear duty position, there is no doubt that the soldiers on the front lines, whose morale is already low, will become even more evasive because they have a new place to escape to the rear.

Such a humble soldier who was conscious of running away would be able to be defeated like a scarecrow by the armies of the Pequeno and Kavalo countries, which were gaining momentum.

“Even the people of the Perese country, who are not good at war, wouldn’t do something like that when their king was in the camp right behind them.”

“Are you sure?”

The look on Kikos' face seemed to say that the people of Perese country were not that smart.

"Well, even if my worries become reality, I'll just have to act as a liaison with the rear."

"...That's right. Prince Milimos was receiving instruction in sacred arts from a knight from a chivalrous kingdom."

“In terms of single cavalry performance, I have been certified as being on par with a novice knight in a chivalry kingdom.”

When I told him the evaluation he received from his family, Kikos' expression changed to one of relief.

"If we don't have to worry about the rear, then we have to worry about the front. So, is it possible to win with a force of less than 1,000 men?"

"I think we can win. From what I've heard from Kikos and the others about the battle so far."

“Is it because we could have defended castles and forts on our own?”

"That's one thing, but I think you should listen to the power of the magic used by the enemy."

While preparing for the counter-offensive operation, I went around asking the soldiers of Nonette Country about the battlefield.

“I heard that the Kikos were mainly fighting against the forces of the Pequeno Kingdom, but the castle walls and fortress walls were never destroyed by a single magical blow, right?”

"No. However, there was an enemy that demonstrated tremendous strength in close combat. If it weren't for the magic shield created in the Rocha region, there would have been casualties. Sho"

"Yes, it's right there."

At my point, Kikos looked like he didn't really understand.

``In short, the magic tools that the Pequeeno Country received from the Empire are not ``staves'' that increase the power of magic, but ``weapons'' that allow them to excel in direct combat. Then, the threat is limited to direct combat. Right?”

“If you ask me, it’s true.”

"There are many ways to fight an opponent who simply has strong weapons."

It's a strategy that confuses the enemy and puts them in a situation where they can't use their weapons satisfactorily.

“Also, among the supplies being transported from the rear, there is a magic tool armor made in the Rocha region. That is magic tools made by the empire, and the aim is to defeat the knights of the chivalry country head-on. Because it's something that's being produced."

"I see. So if you use that armor, the forces of Pekeeno country won't be anything to fear."

"I can't say much about that. The magic armor is in the prototype stage, so I can't get enough of it. I only brought five pieces this time."

“Is it only the fifth place?”

That's why I smiled at Kikos, who seemed to doubt if it was okay.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how useful that fifth place will be on the battlefield."

While we were having this conversation, a loud voice came from the watchtower along with the sound of the boards banging.

"Army is approaching from the rear! Excuse me for being on guard! Make sure you are raising the flag of Nonette country! Reinforcements!"

Seeing the soldier's actions that almost gave out a false alarm, Kikos turned into a Hannya-like face and ran towards the watchtower.

Feeling pity for the soldiers who would be scolded, I decided to lead the preparations to bring the reinforcements who were supposed to have brought new equipment into the castle.
